Overview
Full MEP and smoke-control design for an 18,000-seat multipurpose arena.
The brief
The bowl had to reach comfort conditions for a packed house within minutes of doors, meet demanding smoke-control code, and switch between concert, sport, and convention modes.
Our engineering approach
We designed high-volume displacement ventilation for the seating bowl, a modeled smoke-control system, and metered electrical and plumbing distribution zoned to each event mode and concourse.
The outcome
The bowl reached setpoint within eight minutes of doors at full occupancy, the smoke-control system passed its integrated test, and event changeovers no longer waited on the building systems.
