Overview
Central utility plant and full MEP for a 240-bed acute-care hospital with strict resiliency and infection-control requirements.
The brief
The existing campus plant was at capacity, and the new bed tower needed redundant heating, cooling, and medical gas that could survive a utility outage without interruption.
Our engineering approach
We designed an N+1 chilled-water and steam plant with tri-generation, pressure-isolated air handling for isolation rooms, and fully redundant normal and emergency power sized to NFPA 110 Type 10.
The outcome
The plant carried the new tower with capacity to spare, held every isolation-room pressure relationship on commissioning, and rode through two grid outages during its first year with zero clinical impact.
